Confidence, Creativity & Performing Arts Fun – Discover ‘Take the Stage’ This Winter!
Looking for a fun and creative way to keep the kids entertained indoors this winter?
We know the cooler months can make it tricky to keep them active and engaged but school holidays should still be packed with fun! That’s why we’re thrilled to bring back ASPA Education’s ‘Take the Stage’ Holiday Program for another exciting year.
This year we’re excited to announce a 2-day and 3-day holiday program option to suit your needs. Keep your kids moving, creating, and connecting with action-filled days of singing, dancing, acting, and imagination. Whether your child is a budding performer or simply wants to try something new, our program is designed to inspire confidence, creativity, and to build friendships.
“Our Instructors love finding creative ways to bring the performing arts to life for kids of all ages and abilities. Whether a child wants to be centre stage or prefers a supporting role, we love to provide a space where every participant can learn new skills and shine on stage.” Sally Gawley, Head of ASPA Education
What is ‘Take the Stage’ about?
‘Take the Stage’ is a two or three-day performing arts experience tailored to kids of all backgrounds and skill levels. Whether your child is stepping on stage for the first time or is already a confident performer, this program helps them explore their creative side in a safe, supportive environment. Children are grouped by age into either junior or senior categories, and our specialist Instructors adapt sessions to suit each age group – ensuring every child feels included, challenged, and celebrated.
What to expect
Senior groups
The senior groups have four key sessions during the program, which focus on singing, dancing, drama, and theatre skills. During these sessions, they work with an ASPA Education Instructor who specialises in each field – although most of our instructors are all-rounders!
Junior groups
Juniors explore the same areas, but in shorter, engaging bursts designed for younger children. Juniors work with the same Instructor and assistant over the length of the program to create a sense of routine and consistency. To keep the day balanced, we also include calming activities like mindfulness, creative play, and craft, perfect for helping little minds recharge while still being creative.
Themed fun that sparks the imagination
Each program is based around a surprise theme, revealed on Day 1. Themes help connect the various sessions and keeps the program exciting and fresh from year to year – important for those who join us every year! Past favourites have included dinosaurs, under the sea, circus, science fiction, the environment and friendship.
No prep required – just bring energy, creativity, and comfy clothes to move in!
“She absolutely loved the theme of the show, which was engaging, creative, and well-structured. The program provided a fantastic platform for her to develop confidence, enhance her performance skills, and make new friends.” – Saru, SA Parent
Singing
Each singing session kicks off with a fun and energising vocal warm-up to get both body and voice ready to sing with strength and confidence. Senior participants will also explore vocal techniques and musical terminology, building a strong foundation for performance. From there, the focus shifts to learning a song that will be performed at the Showcase Concert on the final day. Beyond the music, singing together helps children feel calm, connected, and confident. It’s also a great way for them to experience different musical styles and cultures. Our goal? To make singing fun, educational, and a big confidence booster for every child involved.
“It was great fun to see what they were able to achieve in the two days. Wonderful to see how happy and confident they were.” – Liz, NSW Parent
Dance
Participants will warm up with movement and stretch-based activities before learning a choreographed routine to perform at the Showcase Concert. While learning this choreography, they will be exposed to dance terminology, basic dance techniques, and dance fundamentals such as body awareness. Expect a high-energy session that builds physical awareness and encourages each child to move like no one’s watching – until the concert, of course!
“This was a big confidence builder for my child who does not attend any dance lessons and is not overly coordinated. She loved that she could DO the moves and the final dance looked incredible!” – Lisa, NSW Parent
Drama
Drama sessions are designed to align with the selected theme, giving participants the chance to develop key performance skills while having loads of fun. Through improvisation, character-building, and interactive games, participants learn to think on their feet, express emotions confidently, and respond to others in the moment. These aren’t just drama skills, they’re life skills that help children become great communicators and team players. Senior groups take it a step further by exploring scene development, laying the groundwork for more advanced storytelling and structured performances as they grow.
“My son who is autistic and can struggle with new settings found all your instructors and teachers warm and welcoming. He had a blast and was super confident and happy performing in the showcase. Thank you” – WA Parent
Showcase concert
We believe that performing is a powerful way for kids to celebrate their progress and showcase everything they’ve learned. That’s why we wrap up the program with a Showcase Concert on the final afternoon – an exciting, informal event where families are invited to cheer on their young performers. From high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs to creative acting moments, the concert is always a crowd favourite and a memorable way to end the program on a high note.
With performing arts opportunities decreasing in many Australian schools, programs like ‘Take the Stage’ provide a vital outlet for kids to express themselves, build confidence, and feel a sense of belonging. Whether your child is dreaming of the spotlight or simply looking for a fun holiday experience, this program offers a place to grow, explore, and thrive.
