“I have recommended you to many schools. As I said on the night you were both exceptional and professional. We have dealt with other companies but never have we experienced the support and organisation of script, music etc. as we did with ASPA Education. Feedback from parents was very positive and greatly appreciated the work that went into it.”
Angela Faiola – Deputy Principal, St Frances de Sales
The storyline
‘An Aussie Adventure’ tells the story of a family of British Partridge Birds visiting Australia for the first time. Their hearts are set on seeing the Eureka Sky Deck in Melbourne, but they accidentally make a wrong turn and land in Darwin! Thanks to the kindness of the colourful characters they meet in the Top End, the family soon departs on a journey across the country, from tropical Cairns, to the shady banks of the Murray River, to the Australian capital, Canberra! Thirteen scenes work around ten engaging songs that take the audiences through the outback, on surfing adventures, emu races and more! Our family of British birds soon learn that helping out a mate is the Australian way, and it’s what makes us all proud to call Australia home.
“What we’ve found that kids enjoy the most about the show is that they get to put together the songs and dances while having fun with their friends.” – Grace Collins, ASPA Education Instructor
The characters
The storyline has a number of lead speaking roles, supporting roles, and small speaking parts that are flexible in number depending on your school’s needs. This structure allows for our more senior participants to extend themselves by auditioning for bigger roles while also allowing the whole school to be involved in an ensemble. Each grade or class prepares one or multiple songs and dances, which means every child has a featured moment. There are recognisable furry and feathered friends, like koalas, kangaroos and kookaburras that make this musical so much more personal and relevant to Australian students.
As students engage in dramatic exploration of what these characters sound like, look like, and speak like, some schools may also encourage students to be involved in creating the costumes for their characters, adding an extra layer of imagination and fun to the production.
“It was everything that I hoped for. Thank you to ASPA Education for the wonderful musical. The instructors were so easy to work with, they were flexible, and great with the students and staff. Thanks also for a meaningful, smooth and charming school performance. It has been a pleasure working with ASPA Education.” – Jane Dunstone, Principal, Resurrection Primary School
The music
A musical isn’t complete without a sing-a-long or two, and ‘An Aussie Adventure’ boasts a repertoire of familiar music that will get audiences singing along! Favourites like ‘Home Among The Gum Trees’ and ‘Skippy The Bush Kangaroo’ are met with original songs about Aussie animals as well as a traditional Torres Strait Islander piece. The variety of music appeals to audiences of different ages, there is something in the show for everyone!
“The musical has a range of songs. Songs that will appeal to junior primary students to middle and upper primary school students and importantly that will appeal to the audience.” – Sally Gawley, Head of ASPA Education
What students learn
Whether singing and dancing is your thing, or you’re giving something new a try, An Aussie Adventure is the perfect opportunity for students to make friends and memories in the comfort of their school environment. As the Team at ASPA Education helps your school bring this show to life with workshops, we emphasise the importance of teaching students the music and movement for the show alongside activities that focus on the fundamentals of performance. Ultimately, the creative process of putting the show together inspires confidence, so that students can flourish musically and socially with content that is age appropriate, educational and engaging.
“My favourite part about the show is meeting all the kids on day one, seeing that they’re a little bit nervous and then seeing them progress through to show day. When they’re confident, ready to perform, stepping out on stage knowing exactly what they’re doing. That growth is really amazing!” – Grace Collins, ASPA Education Instructor
