ASPA Education Teacher Professional Development Workshops

Building the capacity of specialist and classroom teachers is a focus for ASPA Education. As passionate educators, we believe in equipping teachers with the skills and knowledge to deliver vibrant and sustainable performing arts programs in their schools.

Show-Stopping School Concerts

Do you want to put on a show that will blow your school community away, but don’t know where to start? Or do you have all the ideas ready to go but need a helping hand to bring your production to life? Join our expert instructors as they give you simple and effective tools to create a show-stopping (and stress-free!) performance.

Suitable for: Primary classroom and primary specialist music teachers.

Content: 

  • Preparing dynamic concert programs
  • Selecting appropriate repertoire for different age groups and sourcing materials
  • Engaging the school community in rehearsals and performances
  • Designing creative segues and links between items
  • Writing scripts, rehearsing speakers and auditioning solos
  • Implementing props, costumes and other theatrical devices
  • Learning two themed songs and adding simple yet effective choreography
  • Polishing for a performance
  • Connecting and networking to maximise learning with and from others

Resources:Each participant will receive a booklet with warm ups, activities, music and digital resources.

NESA Elective PD (Sydney only): This PD meets Standard Descriptors 6.2.2, 2.1.2 and 7.4.2 and can contribute 5 hours towards Elective PD at the Proficient Teacher career stage. You will receive a certificate upon completion.

Performing Arts Content Booster

Are you looking to boost or refresh your performing arts content for Semester 2? Let us re-stock your teacher tool-kit at this practical, hands on day where we will equip you with a wide range of brand new resources that will engage students of all ages and abilities.

Suitable for: Primary classroom and primary specialist music teachers, casual relief teachers and pre-service teachers

Content: 

  • Music in the Classroom – greeting songs, transition songs, action songs and creative musical activities to engage students
  • Team Building Activities – Fun and energising theatre-based activities designed to promote imagination, teamwork, focus and confidence
  • Movement Activities and Dance – Warm up, stretch and learn a fun and easy dance routine to teach your class
  • Incorporating classroom instruments – songs, activities and creative ways to include basic hand percussion into your classroom.

Resources: Each participant will receive a booklet with warm ups, activities, music and digital resources.
