Founder
17.9.1929 – 31.10.2025
At the age of 55, after a career in music and drama education spanning 30 years, Judith decided to form a girls choir which would have an emphasis not only on singing but also dance and presentation. Her aim was to create a choir known for its unique Australian sound (as distinguished from English Cathedral). She envisaged a national choir, with a common repertoire and polished choreography.
Judith dedicated her life to nurturing the voices and confidence of young Australian girls. As the Founder of the Australian Girls Choir and Co-Founder of Girls from Oz, she believed deeply in the power of the performing arts to change lives. She was honoured on Australia Day 2004, when she was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to music, particularly through the Australian Girls Choir.
Judith will be remembered for her determination, honesty and conviction, and for the profound impact she has had on generations of Australian girls. Judith’s legacy will continue to inspire and empower young people for years to come.
